Project Management Fundamentals
7th & 14th July 2022
In this 2-day course you will learn how important understanding a project’s environment and its stakeholders are. It covers the fundamentals of project management from start up to closure. You’ll gain practical experience by applying some of the tools and tips to help manage your project. This will give you a toolkit that will help enhance success in your future projects.

Small Business Finance
A straightforward perspective on finance
If you’re employed in a role that requires you to understand the basics of finance or you are a business owner struggling to get to grips with finance, this is the masterclass for you.
On completion of this masterclass, you will walk away with:
- An insight into the relationship between business and accounting
- A basic understanding of financial statements
- An understanding of the tools used to interpret financial statements
- The ability to distinguish the difference between profit and cashflow
Spend the day with an expert adept in making finance simple, straightforward and easy to understand. During this interactive session, we’ll cover basic financial principles, financial statements and cashflow. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and discuss.
By understanding how finance works, you will improve your ability to run a successful business. At the end of the day you’ll leave greater knowledge and insight.

UCLAN’s Leading Lancashire project delivers free training and development programmes for individuals working in Lancashire SMEs
UCLAN is delivering Leading Lancashire free programmes for individuals working (or self-employed) in Lancashire SMEs
Leading Lancashire is an innovative leadership project that is tailored to meet the learning and development needs of individuals that work in small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) across
Lancashire. It is part-funded by the European Social Fund and UCLAN is one of a number of project partners.
UCLAN delivers programmes that enable people to develop their personal, leadership and management skills through training, coaching and support. Some events are hosted online whilst
others are face-to-face.
There is a range of events running in June and over the summer until the end of September. These include:
Wednesday 6th July: Foundations of Leadership Theory & Practice “Great course. Very informative and will be really useful going forward.” Attendee, April 2022.

This is a fully funded programme, and the eligibility criteria are that a participant must be:
- Eligible to live and work in the UK
- Employed / Self-employed
- Working for a Lancashire based SME (fewer than 250 employees)
- Aged 16 and over
Jonathan Engages With Leading Lancashire To Improve Management Skills
Jonathan Holding has recently improved his leadership and management skills thanks to fully-funded support from the Leading Lancashire project. Upon recommendation from a colleague, Jonathan Holding attended one of the Leading Lancashire project’s free workshops. Jonathan intends to one day move into a leadership position, so took the chance to improve his skills by working with the Leading Lancashire team. The University of Central Lancashire’s Leading Lancashire project is free to eligible participants and is part-funded by the European Social Fund.
The knowledge gained from working with Leading Lancashire is proving valuable, with Jonathan explaining: ‘’The Coaching Conversation course was presented in such a way that it made you enthusiastic to apply the techniques that were talked about.’’ Jonathan is currently employed by the Yordas Group, based in Lancaster.
He has some management responsibilities at Yordas, including mentoring junior staff and new starters, which has allowed him to implement his learnings in a real-life setting.
Jonathan commented further saying: ‘’The course I took was up there with the best online learning sessions I have ever taken.’’ He also reserved special praise for the team stating: ‘’The tutors were great at bringing a group of learners together and leaving us feeling empowered to take our learning further. I was positively buzzing
afterwards.’’

There was also some advice from Jonathan for anyone else who may wish to attend: ‘’On a Leading Lancashire course, everyone who’s attending is there because they have the engagement and enthusiasm to be potential leaders, so everything is geared towards active, engaged learning. Don’t expect to be a passenger because no one else will be!’’
Michelle Lyons, Development Coach at Leading Lancashire, added: ‘’Jonathan was fantastic to work with. He really engaged with the facilitators and other attendees. Being open to sharing experiences makes the day more beneficial and enjoyable for everyone. It’s great that Jonathan has then been able to apply his learning in a professional setting. Laura Rediscovers The Joys Of Learning Through The Leading Lancashire Programme
Laura Smith recently developed her leadership and management skills through attending Leading Lancashire’s training courses. Laura Smith wanted to develop her coaching skills, so after receiving an e-mail she decided to take up the opportunity for career development with the University of Central Lancashire’s Leading Lancashire project. The programme is free to eligible participants and is part-funded by the European Social Fund.
Laura who is employed by Hawthorn Estates NW Ltd, based in Tarleton, welcomed the guidance and training on offer. She enjoyed the training so much she has now
attended several events over the past 15 months. The training delivered by specialists in the field has helped Laura rediscover her joy of learning. She particularly
enjoyed engaging and meeting with others, acquiring new skills and techniques which could be practically applied within her organisation. Laura said, “I wanted to
challenge myself and gain knowledge to develop and in turn help others within my organisation to explore their goals”.
Laura further commented on her experience, adding: “The events were engaging, thought-provoking, and challenging. They were led by knowledgeable and
experienced coaches facilitating, guiding, and empowering attendees to develop their full potential”. Laura hopes to continue her studies and noted. “I would like to
continue to learn, develop and challenge myself. Ideally, I would like to undertake an MBA in the future”.

Asked about any advice for anyone considering taking up the training offered through the programme, she added. “As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, ‘Growth – unless you try and do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow’. Challenge yourself, you will learn a lot about yourself and in turn about others around you. It is never too late to learn”.
