We were proud to attend the official opening of the brand-new Foxton Youth and Community Centre.
Foxton has supported thousands of young people since 1969 and the new space is designed by young people, for young people, it reflects their vision, creativity, and needs.
It was inspiring to hear speeches from some of the young people who helped shape the new centre, including Rhiannon, Sara, Rhegan, and Taejuan, and to reflect on the lasting impact Foxton continues to have on generations of Preston families.
Cotton Court’s Rob Binns also spoke at the event, sharing how Foxton shaped his own journey. Like Rob, for many young people in Preston, Foxton isn’t just a centre, it’s been a second home, a safe space, and a place where they’re believed in.
The new facility includes a fully equipped kitchen, dance studio, games room, wellbeing spaces, rooftop terrace, and a stunning mural by local artist Shawn Sharpe. Architect John Bridge worked closely with young people to bring their ideas to life, creating a flexible space that can support multiple activities at once.
While the construction was funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, furnishing the space has relied on support from local businesses through the Furnish Foxton appeal, and we’ve been proud to play a small role in that.
Earlier this year, Luke Massie, founder of VibePay and a long-time advocate for youth opportunity, generously donated the entire contents of the former VibePay HQ to the campaign, including desks, chairs, and tech to help kit out the new space.
As Luke said: “If it helps young people, it’s yours.”
Cotton Court helped make the connection, and we’re hugely grateful to Luke for his support. It’s a reminder that when businesses step up for their communities, brilliant things happen.
What’s Next for Foxton?
As the centre enters this exciting new chapter, Cath Coffey steps into the role of CEO, taking over from Jeff Marsh. Having been closely involved throughout the project, Cath is committed to keeping young people’s voices at the heart of everything Foxton does.
There’s still more to be done, and community support remains crucial.
